Taster Days

For Year 11 students who are considering applying to EMS for A-level study

If you love Maths and you think EMS may be for you, we strongly recommend you sample what we have to offer at one of our Taster Days.

This event is aimed at Year 11 students, giving you to a chance to meet staff and students and immerse yourself in the fun but demanding Maths, Physics and Computing challenges we are into here.

Meet the EMS staff and students, take part in a series of workshops, have your questions answered.

Taster Days with EMS – Autumn Term 2021 (September 2022 Entry)

We hope to run a mixture of live and online Taster Days in the autumn term.  Please check the box to the right for dates.

Taster Days are the only way to get a true feel of the unique, informal atmosphere at Exeter Maths School.  We start the day with a presentation from our Head, Kerry Burnham, before the students the students break off into groups to experience lessons in Maths, Physics and Computer Science.  Parents are welcome to join in the Head’s presentation and Q&A session. We will also run a separate information session for those interested in EMS residential accommodation.

Dates for Taster Days

Virtual Open Day – recording available here

In the summer of 2020, due to the national lockdown, we were unable to hold our usual open day.  We had no students in school and so created an open event unlike any before or since.  We’re sharing this video to enable you to get a feel for EMS and understand our unique offer by accessing a video tour of the school and meeting members of staff.  It’s not going to be the same as attending in person or having a full taster day, but hopefully it will answer some of your questions: virtual open day.

The very important feature that was missing from the open day was, of course, our students.  Here’s a tour of the school led by students which was also recorded in the autumn of 2020: tour of EMS

If you have any questions which have not been answered, feel free to email admissions@exeterms.ac.uk.
