What are your hobbies and interests?

Since starting at university I have become extremely keen on competitive ballroom dancing, I particularly enjoy the dressing up and the element of teamwork that comes from having to dance and train with a partner. I also enjoy (board and PC) games, generally the more complicated the better.

What is your greatest achievement to date?

Picking competitive ballroom dancing as the subject of my third-year mathematics extended essay paper and getting a first for that paper. I credit my experience doing the EMC in giving me confidence that a good mathematics paper can be created from almost any topic if it is a topic that you care about.

What was the highlight of your time at EMS?

It’s a close tie between the weekly board-games night at the flat and organising the EMS Starcraft Tournament for two years.

What was your biggest surprise about EMS?

The amount of autonomy students had to come up with ideas for clubs/events/Starcraft Tournaments and then make those things a reality.

Do you have any advice for future applicants?

If you think this is the sort of place that you might enjoy then you probably will. If you don’t, then you might be pleasantly surprised.
